WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) today announced that Bridget Santos, a 23-year old Rhode Island resident who received coverage for hip replacement surgery through the Affordable Care Act, will join him in Washington later this month for President Trump’s State of the Union Address. “I’m proud to be attending the State of the Union with Congressman Cicilline, who has been a strong champion for the Affordable Care Act. No American should ever have to worry about whether they can afford health care,” said Santos. “I know that I wouldn’t even be able to attend this year’s State of the Union without the critical benefits I’ve gotten through the Affordable Care Act. I hope my being there will remind every member of Congress that the American people have benefitted from this law.”

PAWTUCKET - U.S. Representative David N. Cicilline (RI-01), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement: "The decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 200,000 Salvadorans is cruel and short-sighted. It will tear apart families, disrupt our economy, and undermine our strategic goals in Latin America." "Congress must immediately pass legislation to shield these individuals from deportation by the Trump Administration, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to make that happen."
PAWTUCKET - U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), author of the Automatic Voter Registration Act, issued the following statement tonight: “Every American citizen has the right to make his or her voice heard at the ballot box. But for several years now, self-serving politicians have tried to take this right away from working men and women, minorities, and young people, by making it more difficult or impossible to vote.” “President Trump tried to build on these efforts, but tonight the President was forced to end his efforts to make it more difficult for Americans to vote by dissolving his bogus voter fraud commission.”
PAWTUCKET – Both as a member of the House Democratic Leadership team, and as the top Democrat on the House Antitrust Subcommittee, Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-1) has spent the past year helping to shape the national discourse about the challenges facing working Americans. Even as President Trump ushers in an era of unprecedented uncertainty in Washington, Cicilline has continued to deliver results for the people he serves. Below are the highlights of Congressman Cicilline’s work in 2017: LEADING DEMOCRATS IN THE AGE OF TRUMP
KABUL – Earlier this morning, U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, landed in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he will celebrate Christmas with men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who are serving there as part of Operation Resolute Support.   “We owe our servicemembers and their families an incredible debt,” said Cicilline, who represents more than 30,000 veterans in Rhode Island’s First District. “The men and women of the United States Armed Forces represent our country’s most important values of service, honor, and courage. It’s an incredible privilege to spend Christmas with these brave men and women.”
WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) issued the following statement today: “Republicans spent yesterday celebrating a tax bill that robs money from the middle class and gives it to corporations and the wealthiest Americans. Today, they failed to address any of the urgent needs facing working people.” “This funding bill passed by the Republicans today fails to include a long-term, bipartisan extension of children’s health insurance and makes harmful cuts to critical preventative health care for kids. It fails to ensure that veterans can get the care they need through the VA. It abandons millions of American families who are struggling as a result of the ongoing opiate epidemic.
WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01), a member of the House Democratic  Leadership, issued the following statement today: “Republicans just pulled off one of the biggest cons in the history of American politics. This job-killing bill gives companies even more incentive to ship American jobs overseas. It lays the groundwork for devastating cuts to Medicare and Social Security. It robs working people in order to give even more money to the wealthy. And it will force the next generation to pay off more than $1 trillion in new deficit spending.”
