Families living in Rhode Island’s First District attended a free tax preparation clinic offered by Congressman Cicilline. In coordination with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), Cicilline’s office gave attendees the opportunity to file their taxes electronically with IRS-certified volunteers, who also provided information regarding eligibility for special tax credits.

Cicilline (RI-01) and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (OR) today announced the introduction of the Equality Act, comprehensive civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination against members of the LGBTQ community in the areas of employment, education, credit, jury service, federal funding, housing, and public accommodations. “In 2021, every American should be treated with respect and dignity,” said Cicilline. “Yet, in most states, LGBTQ people can be discriminated against because of who they are, or who they love. It is past time for that to change. I’m proud to introduce the Equality Act today, and I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Merkley to get this bill signed into law.”

BRISTOL, RI – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), along with U.S. Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), announced today that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has selected Bristol’s “Revolutionary Heritage Byway” as Rhode Island’s first National Scenic Byway, a designation that was made possible by a law Cicilline authored in 2019. The designation, along with a new federal appropriation sponsored by Senator Reed, means Bristol could compete for a share of federal funds through a National Scenic Byways competitive grant program.
