Working Hard for Rhode Island

It has been my honor to serve the women, men, and families of Rhode Island’s First Congressional District. These have been extremely difficult times for our state and nation, and I am working hard every day to deliver results for Rhode Islanders. Whether it is advocating for federal funding to help Rhode Island recover from this pandemic, championing infrastructure investments that create good paying jobs in our state, leading the fight to combat corporate monopolies, end price gouging, and provide relief to consumers, fighting for the priorities that reflect our shared values, or helping constituents secure the benefits they’ve earned and deserve – I am grateful for the opportunity to be there for Rhode Islanders. I humbly ask for your support so we can continue this work together. – David N. Cicilline, Member of Congress

Press Releases
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI), a former member of the House Budget Committee, today released the following statement after House Republicans and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) released their version of this year’s budget proposal:
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) today urged the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee to include targeted, job-creating investments in transportation infrastructure upgrades, advanced manufacturing, and education and workforce training in the Fiscal Year 2015 budget to boost employment.  Cicilline, a former member of the House Budget Committee, also highlighted the economic benefits of raising the minimum wage and protecting our social safety net - including nutrition programs, Medicare, and Medicaid.  Cicilline’s remarks, which were submitted to the House Budget Committee, follow: Thank you Chairman Ryan, Ranking Member Van Hollen, and members of the Budget Committee.
WASHINGTON, DC – Two Rhode Island social entrepreneurs today travelled to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. at the invitation of U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) to give a TED-style briefing to U.S. lawmakers on social enterprise.  Kelly Ramirez, CEO of Social Enterprise Greenhouse, and Amelia Friedman, a Brown University student and Executive Director of the Student Language Exchange, joined a panel including three other experts to discuss both the economic and public benefits of identifying and solving social problems.
NEWPORT, RI -- U.S. Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and U.S. Representatives Jim Langevin (D-RI) and David Cicilline (D-RI) today joined with Governor Lincoln D. Chafee in announcing $1.6 million in federal aid to help the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) cover costs of rebuilding and strengthening infrastructure damaged by Superstorm Sandy.  RIPTA will use $1,602,000 in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding to improve passenger protection and reduce flooding at the Newport Gateway Center, one of RIPTA’s major transit hubs.  The facility’s tent-like sails, which were designed to protect riders from sun and rain, were severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.
PAWTUCKET, RI - U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) today delivered healthy meals to low-income Rhode Island seniors in North Providence as part of Meals On Wheels' 12th Annual March for Meals campaign.   Meals On Wheels Home Delivered Meal program is the only non-profit meal delivery service in Rhode Island and its staff and volunteers serve nearly 1,500 meals each day.  The program is partially funded through the federal Elderly Nutrition Program, which supports community-based services that help older Americans who may be at risk of losing their independence.
WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives today unanimously approved Congressman David N. Cicilline’s (D-RI) amendment to the ENFORCE Act to help ensure transparent accounting of taxpayer money spent under Republican backed legislation.  Cicilline’s amendment was the only Democratic amendment that was accepted by the Republican-led House. The ENFORCE Act, which is based on the false premise that the President has failed in his duty to faithfully execute the laws, could impose numerous and limitless costs on taxpayers.  Cicilline’s amendment, which acts as a safeguard to protect taxpayers, requires the Government Accountability Office to issue quarterly reports to Congress on the costs of litigation initiated by the United States House or Senate under this Republican-backed legislation.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline today received the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA) ‘Champion of Small Business Investing’ award, which recognizes individuals who have worked to promote American small businesses and the investors who support them. "I am honored to receive the Champion of Small Business Investing award," said Cicilline.  “My top priority in Congress is getting Rhode Island back to work by investing in small businesses to boost economic growth and create jobs.  I am proud to support the Small Business Investment Company program so local business owners in Rhode Island and across the country can better access capital, grow their operations, and create jobs.”
