PROVIDENCE —The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC and the Alliance for Retired Americans, two leading organizations focused on older Americans, endorsed U.S. Congressman David Cicilline’s campaign for reelection to Congress.
“I am grateful for the support of NCPSSM PAC and the Alliance for Retired Americans,” said Congressman Cicilline. “House Republicans have made it clear that Social Security and Medicare will not be safe if they take back control of Congress. Our seniors worked hard on the promise that these programs would be there for them when they retired, and I will continue to not only defend Social Security and Medicare, but strengthen them and make sure benefits keep up with costs. At a time when Rhode Islanders are feeling the pain of rising prices, it is reckless and unacceptable that the Republican agenda would actually add even greater costs for older Rhode Islanders.”
“Representative David Cicilline’s positions demonstrate his strong commitment to ensuring that all Americans have the secure retirement they have earned. We welcome his leadership on issues such as strengthening Medicare and Social Security, while protecting the program from cuts or privatization efforts. Our members support Representative Cicilline’s candidacy because of his belief in affordable health care, including lower drug prices, pension security, and quality long-term care,” said Alliance for Retired Americans president, Robert Roach, Jr.
“The National Committee to Preserve Social Security PAC is proud to endorse Congressman David Cicilline for reelection. As one of the greatest allies that older Americans have in Congress, seniors know that they can trust Congressman Cicilline. He has earned a 100% voting record on the National Committee’s Congressional Scorecard for voting to strengthen Social Security, improve Medicare’s benefits, and lower the costs of prescription drugs for seniors and their families. Congressman Cicilline has been a steadfast opponent against cuts to Social Security and Medicare, and the National Committee needs him back in Congress to continue to protect the earned benefits of Rhode Islanders,” said NCPSSM PAC spokesperson Luke Warren.
Congressman Cicilline is a staunch advocate for older Americans. Throughout his time in Congress, he has fought to strengthen and preserve Social Security and Medicare, programs our seniors not only deserve, but earned and worked hard for their entire lives. He is committed to ensuring that older adults can spend their later years living with dignity and has fought to lower prescription drug prices and other kitchen table costs. This year, David helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation that empowers Medicare to negotiate the price of high-cost medications, limits Medicare Part D out-of-pocket expenses to $2,000 a year, caps insulin at $35 per month for Medicare enrollees, and prevents Big Pharma from price gouging. Congressman Cicilline is also the sponsor of a House resolution to establish a Permanent Select Committee on Aging.
“I’m so proud to be part of this coalition, to be part of the fight against reckless policies that endanger our nation’s seniors’ health and financial security,” said Congressman Cicilline. “Together, I know we can stop the Republican attack on Social Security and Medicare.”
