Cicilline Statement on Senate Vote

Wednesday, February 5, 2020

WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01) issued the following statement today:

“The verdict in the Senate is not the product of a real trial and is not an exoneration. This was a cover up. Plain and simple.”

“The President must be held accountable for his abuse of power. Unfortunately, Republicans in the Senate are terrified of incurring the President‘s wrath. Since the Senate will not hold President Trump accountable, the American people will have to do so in November.”

“A final note. I commend Senator Romney for his courage. The raw honesty of his speech on the Senate floor is too rare in today’s politics. We need more people who are willing to do the right thing regardless of the consequences.”
