Cicilline Statement on Possible Bump Stock Ban

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

PAWTUCKET – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), the House sponsor of the Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act (H.R. 3947), issued the following statement today:

“Last October, a gunman in Las Vegas used semi-automatic rifles modified with bump stocks to murder 58 people. Three days later, along with 140 of my colleagues, I introduced legislation to ban the sale, possession, and production of bump stocks. Yet, the Republicans in Congress have done absolutely nothing since then to address the epidemic of gun violence in our country.”

“I look forward to reviewing the Department of Justice's new regulations to ban bump stocks as soon as they are completed and available. I hope it will mark a step in the right direction. In the meantime, Republicans should join Democrats to enact other commonsense proposals to keep the American people safe.”
