Cicilline Statement on Barr’s Refusal to Testify

Wednesday, May 1, 2019

WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01), who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement after learning that Attorney General William Barr is refusing to testify tomorrow morning:

“Nearly six weeks ago, Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded his investigation into President Trump’s conduct. Since then, Attorney General William Barr has refused to release the full report to Congress, even after the issuance of a lawful subpoena. He has refused to provide any of the underlying evidence. He has refused to do just about anything other than provide political cover for the President.”

“In addition, his refusal to testify before the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow is short-sighted and disgraceful. We will compel his testimony by issuing a subpoena for his appearance. We will get the answers that Attorney General Barr is trying to keep from the American people. It’s time to hold Mr. Barr in contempt for his failure to comply with the subpoena requiring him to produce the unredacted Mueller report to Congress.”
