Cicilline Statement on Attorney General’s Thursday Morning Press Conference

Wednesday, April 17, 2019

PAWTUCKET – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01), who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement today:

“It’s difficult to understand why the Attorney General would hold a press conference tomorrow for any purpose other than to try and portray the findings of Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation in a way that’s favorable to the President. Unless the Department of Justice releases the redacted version of the report tonight, journalists attending tomorrow’s press conference won’t even have the opportunity to digest its contents and ask informed questions.”

“This sure seems more like an amateur attempt at spin than an honest effort to be transparent with the American people.”

“Rather than hold a press conference, the Attorney General should just release the report, provide an un-redacted version to Congress, and then work with us to release the grand jury materials. Each day that he fails to do any one of these things only raises more and more questions about what they don’t want the American people to see.”
