PSA: Cicilline Congressional Offices Will Remain Open in Event of Federal Government Shutdown

Monday, January 22, 2018

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline’s Pawtucket and Capitol Hill offices will remain open for normal business hours in the event of a government shutdown.

“I came to Congress to get things done for Rhode Island,” said Cicilline. “Even if the President fails to craft an agreement today, my offices will remain open to provide any assistance or services my constituents require.”

The federal government is slated to run out of funding at midnight tonight. A shutdown would result in the closure of most federal departments and agencies. Small business loans will stop, environmental clean-up efforts will be put on hold, and tens of thousands of federal employees will be sent home. The U.S. Postal Service, airports, and national parks will remain open. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid will also continue to operate.

Rhode Islanders with questions regarding the shutdown should contact Cicilline’s Pawtucket office at 729-5600. The office will remain open Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm.
