Cicilline Statement on Withdrawal of Trump’s Labor Secretary Nominee

Wednesday, February 15, 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today after President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the U.S. Department of Labor, Andrew Puzder, withdrew his nomination:

“Andrew Puzder was always unqualified to serve as Secretary of Labor. His record as a corporate CEO was defined by his total disregard for working men and women.”

“The next Secretary of Labor must be a champion for the working men and women of this country.  This individual must support raising the minimum wage to a living wage, defend President Obama’s overtime rule that ensures hard work is rewarded and valued, and be ready to fight to keep good-paying jobs here in the United States.”

“President Trump campaigned as a champion of working families. He should make sure his next nominee matches this rhetoric.”
