Cicilline Statement on Senate Health Care Vote

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today after Senate Republicans delayed a vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act until after the July 4th holiday:

“The American people spoke loudly and clearly. In emails, letters, and phone calls, they let Republicans know that they better not repeal the Affordable Care Act. Make no mistake about it, Republicans pulled this bill off the floor today because they knew it was going down.”

“Democrats are ready to work with Republicans to improve the Affordable Care Act. But Republicans need to come to the table. They need to give up on eliminating health care for tens of millions of people. They need to give up on slashing Medicaid and the Medicare Trust Fund. And they need to give up on trying to give the wealthiest Americans and insurance companies a massive tax cut.”

“If Republicans give up on repealing the Affordable Care Act, we can work together to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, increase competitions, and drive down premiums and out-of-pocket costs. The ball’s in their court.”
