Cicilline Statement on Passage of “Health Care” Bill

Thursday, May 4, 2017

WASHINGTON – DPCC Co-Chair David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today after House Republicans passed legislation that will eliminate health care coverage for 24 million Americans; cut taxes for millionaires, billionaires, insurance companies, and drug companies; substantially increase insurance premiums; impose an age tax on older Americans; slash funding for children covered under Medicaid; and force millions of working people to pay higher out-of-pocket costs for their health care:

“This is the cruelest and most immoral thing I’ve seen the Republican Party do to the American people. They just passed a bill that they know will result in the deaths of thousands of working people each year. I don't know how they sleep at night.”

  • 10 hours 3 min ago If this bill comes to the House, I KNOW Democrats will vigorously oppose it and ensure Republicans are held ACCOUNTABLE for their actions.
  • 10 hours 13 min ago Millions of Americans SHOULD NOT have to give up their health care coverage just so the WEALTHIEST Americans can get a $600 BILLION tax cut.
  • 10 hours 18 min ago And it will allow insurance companies to once again charge individuals more for having a pre-existing condition.
  • 10 hours 22 min ago It will defund Planned Parenthood for a full year.
  • 10 hours 27 min ago It will cut Medicaid, which provides coverage for most Rhode Islanders in nursing homes, even more deeply than the House Republican bill.
