Cicilline Statement on Devin Nunes’s Recusal

Thursday, April 6, 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman and Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chair David N. Cicilline (D-RI), who co-led a letter yesterday requesting House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) recuse himself from the Trump-Russia investigation, issued the following statement today:

“Devin Nunes made the right decision. Over the last few weeks, his words and his actions have undermined this investigation and raised serious doubts about whether he could impartially lead this investigation.”

“Russia undermined our election last year. They hacked the Democratic National Committee and used the documents they stole to boost Donald Trump’s campaign. That’s not my opinion – it’s a fact upon which 17 American intelligence agencies agree.”

“Nothing is more fundamental to our democracy than the integrity of our elections. The American people deserve to know whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian intelligence agents to undermine our democracy. The only way we’re going to get those answers is through a bipartisan, independent investigation.”
